compiling problems for shared objs

Hi,
I compile vtk 2.4 on Solaris 2.7. The Tcl executable works fine, but the
shared libs have a lot of unresolved dependencies, and the *Tcl.so libs
cannot be loaded in wish. I figured it's because
a) they don't link against each other (why not?)
b) The Tcl libs don't link the generic ones

When I fixed the makefiles accordingly (i.e. included -l${ME}.so for the
*Tcl.so rule in Kits.make and the necessary libs in the Makefiles in the
subdirectories, it works (Tcl.so libs can be loaded in wish). But:
running the tests crashes the shell.

I'm at a loss - obviously I have not understood vtk's linking process...

Help please!
