Summary0009691: Mouse behavior more like default Mac
DescriptionFrom a user:

I am running Paraview 3.6.0 on my MacBook Pro, and would like to request an improvement in the behavior of the mouse buttons in Paraview.

When I have a 3-button mouse plugged in, it behaves as expected. The left button rotates, the middle button pans, and the right button zooms.

When I use the trackpad, the left and right buttons of the trackpad behave the same as the mouse (it has the new trackpad that has a right button). I can also do command-left click to emulate a right click, which is the expected behavior for Mac applications, and would be needed on an older laptop with one button.

The problem is that it is hard to get the middle mouse button behavior with the trackpad. In other applications like X11, the middle mouse button can be emulated by doing option-left click, but that down't work in Paraview. Through trial and error, I have discovered that ctrl-shift-left click emulates the middle mouse button and lets me pan. That is kind of a pain, and is nonstandard. Is there a way for a user to change the mouse button mappings? I would like to request that option-left click be mapped to the middle mouse button.

Berk's reply:

For Option + Left click, we have to add Option (Alt) to the list of modifiers. That would be another row in that GUI. It would probably take a few days to implement it.

Alan's comment:
Low to medium priority.

I haven't heard this request in years. What we have is known and consistent. Closing bug.
